Read more »Ischgl is located high up in the Paznaun valley. It is a bustling Tirolean village that has retained its traditional charm whilst allowing the swanky bars and clubs to mix in at the same time. The buildings in resort are mainly traditional chalet style but don’t let this fool you as there are plenty of narrow streets that give it a townie atmosphere.
Ischgl really is the party town of the Alps for apres ski. Mountain restaurants like the Paznauner Thaya head into après ski mode after lunch. Back in the village the Trogana Alm and the Schatzu have indoor and outdoor bars. If you feel the need to jump on the table and dance in your ski boots then feel free in the Kitzloch.
There are bars with live music, upmarket champagne bars and even a lap dancing bar! There is also a branch of the famous Pacha nightclubs to be found in Ischgl. Basically something for all tastes when the sun goes down and the lifts close! Off the slopes there are plenty of marked walks, a toboggan run and a good sports centre. There are also boutique shops selling the likes of Versace.
Ischgl is a good sized, high, snow-sure area where you have access to the neighbouring resort of Galtur with your Silvretta area pass. Beginners will find that Idalp is the best area to learn as there are plenty of snow-sure and sunny slopes. There are also blue runs over on the East side of the bowl that are great for progressing onto. Intermediates will find that there is something for all tastes. There is a good selection of reds on the Palinkopft and some challenging black runs down the Hollspitz chair. For those that like motorway cruising then head to Alp Trida on the Swiss side. More advanced skiers and boarders will find a good range of black runs and some fantastic touring routes. If you hire a guide then you will be taken on some fantastic off piste for which the area is renowned.
The Silvretta area offers one of the biggest and best freestyle parks in the Alps. For cross country skiers there are 48Km of track in the valley between Ischgl, Galtur and Wirl.
