Vanoise Express update
The cable car which connects the two halves of Paradiski is scheduled to re-open on 20th December 2008.
It was announced in December 2007 that the cable car wouldn’t be running this season after a routine check in November found wear and tear on the outer coating of some cables.
However the decision not to operate the cable car was only made public on December 22nd, which angered some season workers and holiday-makers who had already bought lift passes for both Les Arcs and La Plagne ski areas.
Paradiski told us that the announcement was made at the last minute because they hoped that at least one of the two cable cars would be operational, but the decision was eventually taken to replace both cables at the same time as a safety precaution
They also told us that the company which first built the facility has placed an order for 4 new cables, each 2km long, and the first batch should be delivered by the end of May. Work will then last most of the summer, enabling the cable car to reopen for the 2008-9 season.
WHAT IF I AM HEADING OUT THERE THIS SEASON?
Both Les Arcs and La Plagne ski areas are currently fully open with access to all runs, covering 425 km. Some Ski Club staff went out to La Plagne earlier this month and reported that there was plenty of varied terrain to keep them busy all week.
