Suitable clothing for a ski holiday is essential. From freezing temperatures to glorious sunshine on the slopes you must be prepared. If you wear the correct clothing then you will stay warm, dry and comfortable and will enjoy yourself so much more!
* First layer should be thermal which will maintain your body's temperature by trapping warm air between your skin and the fabric to keep you warm
* Second layer is a synthetic or wool layer (fleece). This layer will insulate and transfer moisture from base layer to outer layer
* Third layer is a synthetic layer to keep out moisture. This jacket should be waterproof and breathable. Your outer clothing must fit well and allow complete freedom of movement
In some countries and individual US resorts it is compulsory for children to wear helmets eg.
* Norway/Sweden - under 13 years
* Italy - under 14 years
There is now an excellent range of helmets available from full face motocross style, 3/4 shell helmets and carbon fibre helmets with removable ear pads. The most important factor when choosing a helmet is the fit. The style or price should be considered after the size/fit is correct. Due to variations between models you should purchase your helmet from a reputable shop that specialize in helmet fitting. Take your goggles with you to make sure they are compatible with the helmet before making a purchase. A helmet that is too big will not be as effective in protecting your head and a helmet that is too tight and uncomfortable will probably be left at home. Take your time to get it right!
Protecting your eyes on the ski slopes is of paramount importance. The sun reflecting off the snow can dazzle and injure your eyes because of the extreme brightness. Wear good quality reflective sunglasses or ski goggles which will allow you to ski/snowboard even on dull, misty and snowy days
Wear ski gloves or mittens that are water resistant with insulating layer. They should be tight enough so they do not interfere when holding ski poles. However they should be loose to permit circulation to your fingers
