New ski carriage service site goes live

The new service is designed to take the hassle out of transporting your skis or snowboard out to the mountains.

The service, skicarriage.co.uk, will collect, store, service and transport your equipment to and from your chosen ski resort using a traceable delivery service and protective Sportube cases.

Clare Stevens and her co-Director Jamie are avid skiers, and decided to set up the service after becoming fed up with the effort associated with transporting and servicing their own equipment. "We feel that the package we have put together achieves all of this and assists our customers to enjoy their holidays more with less of the hassle" she says.

Their service covers most of Europe, the USA and Canada. When comparing the cost of transporting and servicing two pairs of skis to France, it will cost you £214 with skicarriage.co.uk for two pairs of skis to be stored, transported and serviced. However this includes the annual membership fee so if you make more than one ski trip in a year then this can be deducted from the cost of the next trip.

The cost of taking two pairs of skis on Ryanair comes to £230 including the cost of servicing and purchasing a Sportube. There is also the added hassle of getting your skis to the airport, arranging the service yourself and getting your skis to and from the ski shop.

The timing of the new site launch coincides with a recent announcement from BA that they will be charging for baggage over the 23kg free limit, meaning that
if you were to pack ski clothing, boots and skis, you are likely to have to pay excess baggage charges. This brings their ski carriage policy closer to those of some budget airlines, such as Ryanair who currently charge £30 each way.
